Edward Chambliss

Edward CHAMBLISS, of Farrington township died at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Carpenter at 403 S. Spring street, Saturday afternoon, of appendicitis after an illness of about two weeks duration.

For several days previous to his death the condition of Mr. Chambliss had been very alarmning and the only hope of saving his life was a surgical operation for the removal of the cause of his suffering. With this object in view he was brought to Mt. Vernon Saturday afternoon by Dr. Parker of Divide and taken to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Carpenter, where previous arrangements had been made for a surgical operation upon him by Dr. Earl Green assisted by Dr. Parker, his family physician. He was much exhausted, however, by the long and tiresome ride and died between 4 and 5 o'clock, a half an hour after his arrival in town, and before the operation could be performed. An autopsy was held by Drs. Green and Parker late Saturday evening and the cause of death found to be already stated.

Mr. Chambliss was 29 years of age on the 29th of last July and leaves a wife and one child to mourn his death.

He was a member of the Baptist church and his funeral and interment took place today at Harmony.
