Marvin Chambliss, 89, of Mt. Vernon died 10:50 a.m. Sept. 25, 2004, at Countryside Manor Nursing Home in Mt. Vernon.

He was born May 29, 1915, in Jefferson County to Jesse B. Chambliss and Myrtle (Patterson) Chambliss.

He married Margaret Rose (Sledge) Chambliss on July 21, 1934, in Fairfield; she died Sept. 9, 1985.

Mr. Chambliss retired from a lifetime of farming.

Services are set for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Hughey Funeral Home with burial to follow in Harmony Cemetery. Revs. Gene Auxier and Frank Houston will officiate. Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery in rural Jefferson County. Visitation is set for 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hughey Funeral Home.

Survivors include three sons, Richard Chambliss and wife Gretta of Tremont, Marshal Chambliss and wife Mary of Mt. Vernon, and Wendal Chambliss and special friend Sherry of North Pekin; eight grandchilden and 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sister Dorothy Daniels; brothers Howard, Keith, Nelson and Clarence Chambliss; and special brother-in-law Kelly Sledge.
