Charles Samuel Chambliss
Charles Samuel Chambliss, 77, a retired Wayne City blacksmith died at his home in Farrington township, Jefferson County, at 12:20 p.m. Saturday. Mr. Chambliss was born in Jefferson county October 3, 1880, the son of Wiley D. and Mary (Sledge) Chambliss. On September 7, 1903, he was married to Bertha King, who survives. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Harmony Church, conducted by the Rev. Bird Green and the Rev. Ernie Tate. Burial will be in Harmony cemetery. The body was removed from the Richardson Funeral Home in Wayne City to the family residence Sunday, to lie in state until the funeral hour. Surviving, besides his wife, are four sons, Willis, Leuty and Calvin of Bluford and Junior of Wayne City; five daughters, Mrs. Reva Howard of Bethany, Okla., and Mrs. Grace Martin, Mrs. Pet Fletcher, Mrs. Maxine Henry and Geraldine Maxey of Bluford; 29 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and four step grandchildren; and two brothers, Joe and Jess Chambliss of Texico. Mr. Chambliss was a blacksmith around Bluford and Wayne City for 60 years.
