Dorothy L. Clifton, 88, of Mt. Vernon died 12:52 a.m. April 2, 2005, at Crossroads Community Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

She was a waitress and a homemaker.

Mrs. Clifton was born Feb. 25, 1917, in Mt. Vernon to William E. and Eva (Halverson) Dain.

She married Theodore Marcus Clifton in Chicago; he preceded her in death in 1972.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Randy Sells will conclude the evening visitation with a closing prayer. Per the request of Mrs. Clifton, no funeral services will be held.

Mrs. Clifton is survived by two sons, Lewis Clifton and wife Kimberly of Mt. Vernon and Don Gulley of Mt. Vernon; two daughters, Marie Carrol of Lakeland, Fla., and Wilma Lee McGee of Lakeland, Fla.; 16 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Thelma Jean; and several brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Clifton was a Protestant by faith.
