Claude “Zip” Clinton
Claude “Zip” CLINTON, 72, of Christopher, died at 3:15 a.m., Sunday, March 28, 2004, at the Illinois Veterans Home in Anna. He was born in Franklin County, IL on March 23, 1932, the son of William Davis and Odie (OVERTURF) CLINTON. He married Sarah A. CUNITZ on October 4, 1958, and she survives. Mr. Clinton was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He retired from the Illinois Soldiers and Sailors Home in Normal. He was a member of the Faith Assembly of God Church in DuQuoin. Mr. Clinton was a lifetime member of the West Frankfort VFW and DAV. He was a Master Mason and member of the Masonic Lodge No. 64 AF & AM, and order of Eastern Star Benton Chapter No. 425. Mr. Clinton is survived by his wife, Sarah A. Clinton, of Christopher; one sister, Esther DRAPER of Marion; several nieces and nephews and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, by one brother, G. W. CLINTON, by a sister, Mildred Maxine, and by an infant sister, Shirley. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 3, at the Faith Assembly of God Church in DuQuoin, with the Rev. Keith FILER and the Rev. Dean SEVERIN officiating. Burial with military rites conducted by the Orient American Legion Post will be in the Osage Public Cemetery in Royalton. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday to the Morton and Johnston Funeral Home in Benton. Masonic services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Friends may call after 11 a.m. on Saturday at the church.
