Cora Ella (Patterson) Cockrum
Mrs. Cora Ella COCKRUM, daughter of William Dallas and Mary Ellen PAGE PATTERSON, was born near Ewing in Franklin County, IL, September 30, 1871, and departed this life at 10:30 a.m., February 6, 1957, at the home of her daughter, Anna STRICKLAND in Spring Garden, at the age of 85y4m5d. She was married to William Floyd COCKRUM March 27, 1892. Mr. COCKRUM passed away October 11, 1948, preceding her in death more than eight years. Mrs. COCKRUM was the mother of ten children. One daughter, Mary, passed away in infancy. She leaves to mourn her loss seven daughters and two sons; Mrs. Eva WHITLACH, John COCKRUM and Mrs. Ora BAKER of Bonnie, IL; Mrs. Anna STRICKLAND, Mrs. Nigel FOWLER and Curtis COCKRUM of Ina, IL; Mrs. Madge STORY of Opdyke, IL; Mrs. Rose DeLONG and Mrs. Estyle SPENCER of LaGrande, Oregon. She has 14 living grandchildren, (two grandchildren deceased, Billy COCKRUM and Lloyd Francis CADY, Jr.) and 13 great-grandchildren. Four sisters, Mrs. Ida DORRIS of Detroit , Michigan; Mrs. Anna WIRTH and Mrs. Birdie NEWTON of West Frankfort; Mrs. Elsa JOLLY of Marion; and one brother, John PATTERSON of West Frankfort. Mrs. COCKRUM was converted at an early age and was a member of the New Hope Free Will Baptist Church for more than 40 years. She was a faithful witness for her Savior in her testimony and Christian service throughout the years, always ready to help in the time of need until called to her Heavenly Home.
