Edgar E. Cockrum
Edgar E. COCKRUM, 86, Brighton, Colo., a native of Franklin County and a former resident of Sesser and Christopher, died Friday morning in Colorado. Mr. Cockrum was born in 1879, in a log cabin on Little Engine Creek two miles west of the present site of Sesser. He started teaching school at the age of 17, and through his life pursued a teaching career interspersed wih farming, carpentering and mining. He married Katie WINTHROP of Tamaroa. They were the parents of three children, Ruby, Beatrice and Emmett. The family lived in and near Sesser and at Christopher and were long time members of the Horse Prairie Baptist Church at Sesser and the First Baptist Church of Christopher. Mr. COCKRUM has been retired for the past 20 years making his home in Colorado. His wife preceded him in death 11 years ago. In their later years, the couple made their home with their daughter, Beatrice STIRLING in Brighton. He was a charter member of the Sesser Masonic Lodge and received his 50 year pin some years ago from the Lodge in Fort Lupton, Colo. Masonic rites were administered at the funeral services which were held in the First Baptist Church in Fort Lupton. Interment was beside Mrs. COCKRUM at Hillside Cemetery, Fort Lupton, Colo. Surviving are the children, Ruby DeBLANC of Denver, Colo., Beatrice STIRLING of Brighton, Colo., and Lt. Col. Emmett E. COCKRUM of Denver, Colo.; 6 grandchidren; and a brother, J. Earl COCKRUM of Orange Calif.
