HARRY B. CULP KILLED SUNDAY IN AUTO CRASH Car Skids Into Truck on Icy Pavement; 4 Others Injured. Harry B. Culp, 79, 207 South Sixth street, Mt. Vernon, was instantly killed at 7:30 am Sunday when an auto driven by his son-in-law, LeRoy Dale Tate, 24 No. 3-1/2 Shaw's Garden, went out of control on an icy pavement and skidded into a truck-trailer driven by Ray C. Lyday of Coello, Ill., on a curve near the Bob Moss home on Salem road. Tate was seriously injured and is in Good Samaritan Hospital. Mrs. Florence Culp, 59, wife of the crash victim, suffered two broken wrists in the accident. Her daughter, Mrs. Julia Tate, 23, incurred head injuries and bruises. Another, Miriam, also was injured. The women were treated at the hospital and removed to their home. An inquest into the fatal accident has been set for Thursday at 2 pm, Coroner Ben Roeder announced this morning. The turck-trailer involved in the accident was owned by the Day Brothers' firm of Buckner, Ill. Charles Day was in the cab of the truck with Lyday at the time of the accident. Mr. Culp was employed by the Mt. Vernon Hatchery of 1016 Casey avenue. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 3 pm in Myers Chapel. The Rev. Bird Green and the Rev. Dave Goddard will conduct the services and burial will be in Oakwood cemetery. The ...................Myers Chapel. Mr. Culp was born Aug. 11, 1866, in Missouri. He was the son of Samuel W. and and Jennie (MacGregor) Culp. His wife's maiden name was Florence S. Brimm. Mr. Culp farmed for many years in Wayne county a short distance south of keenes. he moved to Mt. Vernon about nine years ago. Besides the members of this family involved in the accident, Mr. Culp is survived by a brother, Dr. E. E. Culp, of Chicago.
