James K. Cummings
James K. Cummings, was born in Jefferson county, Ill., Jan. 14, 1845, and lived in Jefferson county until 18 years old. He then enlisted in the 144th Ill. Vol. and served one year in the Union Army with honor. After his discharge from the army he went to Green county, Ill. and became acquainted with and married Miss Emily M. Bushnell, on Nov. 10, 1868, from which union seven children were born. Two died in infancy, James B. and Anna M. Cummings. The other five still living are: Mrs. Lula R. Pasley, Mrs. Eunice B. Burgin, Mrs. Nellie B. (Bayne or Payne), Peter S. and James P. Cummings, all living in Jefferson county to which place he returned in 1869 and engaged in farming of which he made a success until his death on December 31, 1911. He leaves his wife Emily M., five children and a host of friends to mourn the death of a kind and loving husband, father and friend. He was laid to rest in Old Orchard cemetery.
