Charles E. Dalby
BENTON -- Charles E. Dalby, 85, of Benton, died Thursday, June 20, 2002. He was born on December 30, 1916, in Jefferson County, Elk Prairie Township, the son of Richard T. and Malissa J. (Harmon) Dalby. On July 17, 1937, in Jefferson County, he married Bertha F. (Williams), who survives. Mr. Dalby was a retired farmer and was well-known for raising registered Black Angus cattle and was a lifetime member of the Black Angus Association. He was a member of the Williams Chapel Church in Ewing. Mr. Dalby is survived by his wife, Bertha F. Dalby of Benton; children, Donald E. Dalby and wife Ola of Benton, Mary E. Zinzilieta and Husband William of Mount Vernon, David K. Dalby and wife Becca of Taylors, S.C.,; eight grandchildren, Benjamin E. Dalby and wife Mary Beth of Benton, Sarah Jane Doty and husband Charles of Tamms, Elizabeth A. Dalby of Benton, Paul T. Zinzilieta and wife Marla of Mount Vernon, Ryan T. Dalby and wife Susan of Williamston, S.C., Eric B. Dalby of Greenville, S.C.; six great grandchildren, Malory, Olivia, Ryan, Benjamin, Daniel and McKenzie; one sister, Jo Dalby of Benton. He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and three sisters. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 22, at the Williams Chapel Church in Ewing, with Rev. Charles McCormick and Rev. Robert Walker officiating. Burial will be in the Elder S.M. Williams Cemetery in Ewing. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday to the Morton and Johnson Funeral Home in Benton and after 10 a.m. on Saturday until the funeral hour at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mr. Dalby's memory may be made to the Williams Chapel Church or to Hospice of Southern Illinois, Inc. They will be accepted at the funeral home at any time, or at the church on Saturday.
