Silas W. "Tink" Dare
Silas W. "Tink" Dare, 83, of Mt. Vernon died 5:30 a.m. Feb. 9, 2005, at Mt. Vernon Countryside Manor. He was a retired farmer and trader. Mr. Dare was born July 2, 1921, in Jefferson County to John W. and Ina (Phelps) Dare. Graveside services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Wolfe Prairie Cemetery in rural Jefferson County. Randy Sells will officiate. Those attending this service are asked to go directly to the cemetery on Saturday. Full military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 141 of Mt. Vernon. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Mr. Dare is survived by sons James Dare and wife Ann Michel of Highland Village, Texas, and Robert L. Dare of Augusta, Ga.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a special friend, Wanda McLaughlin of Mt. Vernon; a sister, Laura Belle Lauderback of Effingham; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers, Sterling, James, Maxwell, Hershel and Leo Dare. Mr. Dare was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from August 1942 until November 1945. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1376. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
