Robert Thomas Deaton, 43, of Mt. Vernon died 7:35 a.m. Nov. 23, 2004, at his home.

He worked at A.G. Edwards as an investment broker.

Mr. Deaton was born Dec. 5, 1960, in Fairfield to Robert Jess VanBuskirk and Mitzie (Lee) VanBuskirk Deaton.

He married Nancy (Raney) Deaton June 2, 1984, in Mt. Vernon; she survives.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. The Rev. Everett Lemay will officiate. Burial will follow at Bethel Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. A walk through will be conducted at 8 p.m. by the Mt. Vernon Elks Lodge.

Mr. Deaton is survived by his wife, Nancy R. Deaton of Mt. Vernon; sons Brian Deaton of Mt. Vernon and Blake Deaton of Mt. Vernon; his parents, Jim and Mitzie Deaton of Mt. Vernon; a brother, Bill Deaton and wife Becky of Mt. Vernon; a sister, Sherry Wilson and husband Russell of Mt. Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his birth father, Robert Jess VanBuskirk.

Mr. Deaton was of the Baptist faith. He was exalted ruler of the Mt. Vernon Elks Lodge 819, served on the Board of Directors of the Jefferson County Sports Authority, was head football coach of the sixth-grade team, was on the board of the Gridiron Club, served on the Mt. Vernon City Zoning Board, was past president of the Mt. Vernon Jaycees and was involved with many youth sports activities, JCSA baseball, flag football and basketball.

Vernon Rams boys' basketball, baseball or football and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
