George Washington Dennis, 87, a former resident of Waltonville, died at 4;20 a.m. today at Good Samaritan Hospital.

For the past eight years he had lived at the Setzekorn Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held at 2;00 p.m. Thursday at the Fry Funeral Home in Waltonville with the Rev. Paul Sulcer officiating. Burial will be in Knob Prairie cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Fry Funeral Home where friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Wednesday.

Mr. Dennis was born Feb 9, 1875 in Jefferson county, the son of Henry and Miranda (Gilliam) Dennis.

In Nov., 1898, he was married to Julia Ann Sigwerth who preceded him in death.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Vernon Dennis.

He is survived by a son, Lawrence Dennis of Waltonville; a daughter, Mrs. Herbert Dennis of Sesser; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
