The Mt. Vernon Register News published the following on Monday,  April 24, 1972 which read as follows:

Funeral services for John David Dodds II, 54, the nephew of Mrs. Alma Mannen and Mrs. Ruth Thompson of Mt. Vernon and Mrs. Anna Reid of Centralia, were held at 11 a.m. today in Kansas City, Missouri. Mrs. (sic) Dodds died Thursday in Kansas City of an apparent heart attack.

In addition to his aunts in Mt. Vernon and Centralia, Mr. Dodds is survived by his mother Mrs. Love Dodds Brown of Kansas City and one son, David of Columbia, Missouri.
