The Mt. Vernon Register News published the following on Wednesday, March 7, 1945 which read:

Olive L. Dodds, widow of John D. Dodds, former Jefferson county coroner, died at 4:30 p.m. yesterday at her home, 1116 Main street. She was 81 years of age.

Funeral services will be conducted by Dr. R.B. Guthrie at Myers Chapel Thursday at 3 p.m. and burial will follow at Knob Prairie Cemetery.

Mrs. Dodds was born June 12, 1863 in Blissville Township, near Waltonville, to Raynor and Elizabeth (Ford) Gilbert.

On February 11, 1880, she was united in marriage to John D. Dodds, who preceded her in death December 4, 1935.

Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Norris of Waltonville, Mrs. Anna Reed of Centralia; Mrs. Ruby Hirons, Mrs. Alma Mannen and Mrs. Ruth Thompson, all of Mt. Vernon. Fourteen grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren also survive. Three sons, Gilbert, Wilburn and Wayne and a daughter, Minnie, preceded her in death. The body will remain at Myers chapel.
