Michael T. Dorofey, 81, of Mt. Vernon, formerly of Aberdeen,Md., died 9:55 p.m. Nov. 29, 1999, at Casey Care Center.

Mr. Dorofey was employed in the civil service federal government in the supply department for 43 years.

He was born May 14, 1918, in Philadelphia to Filimon “Felix” Tarahity and Pansy (Kusheruk) Dorofey.

He married Jewell A. Gaines on June 21, 1946, in Elkton, Md.; she survives.

Services will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the chapel at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Alan Rhein officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens. Military flag presentation services will be conducted by the chaplain of American Legion Post 141 of Mt. Vernon. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Hughey Funeral Home.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Dorofey is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth “Libby” Griffin and husband John of Mt. Vernon and Jennifer G. Katona and husband Darryl of Severn, Md.; four grandchildren, Jeff Darryl and Jason Michael Katona, both of Severn, Julie Griffin of Mt. Vernon and John Michael Griffin and wife Stephanie of Woodlawn; one great-granddaughter, Sabryn Griffin; a sister, Elizabeth Berzinsky and husband Walter of Johnstown, Pa.; a brother, Dorsey Dorofey and wife Emma of Johnstown; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Dorofey was a member of Grove Presbyterian Church of Aberdeen, Md., the Veterans of Foreign Wars post of Aberdeen, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving with the Station Medical Detachment in the Pacific. He enlisted April 10, 1944, and was discharged May 15, 1946.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, John, James and Dutch Dorofey; and one sister, Mary Dorofey.
