Bobbie Porter Dycus , 73, a longtime resident of Hamilton, died Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at his home in Hamilton.

He was born on Nov. 18, 1929, in Ina, the son of Benjamin Lloyd and Imogen Page Dycus.

He married Thelma M. Clinton on Sept. 19, 1953, in Mt. Vernon.

He is survived his wife, Thelma M. Dycus of Hamilton; three daughters, Susie (Ronald) Schultz of Carthage, Carol Dycus and Mary Dycus , both of Hamilton; two sons, Edward Dycus of Carthage and Larry Dycus of Hamilton; three sisters, Geraldine (Charles) Gallie of Joliet, Linda (Bill) Shea of Edmond, Okla., and Patsy (Joe) Piggett of Ina; one brother, Jimmy (Cindy) Dycus of Mt. Vernon; three grandchildren, Joshua (Michelle) Schulz of Quincy, Jeremy Schulz of Carthage, and Jennifer (Cory) Clostermery of Carthage; one great granddaughter, Caitlin Clostermery of Carthage; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Katherine "A.J." Dycus, in 1987, and one sister, Dorothy Settles.

He entered the U.S. Army on Nov. 18, 1945, and transferred to the Air Force. He retired from the Air Force on Oct. 31, 1967. He served in Japan for five years, in Korea and Vietnam.

He moved to Hamilton in 1968 and worked for Little Wheels in Keokuk, Iowa, for several years. He then worked for the Hamilton Post Office, retiring after 16 years. He loved gardening and especially spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Aug. 2, at Lamporte Funeral Home of Hamilton. Rev. Greg Busboom officiated. Burial followed in the Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton. A full graveside military service was held by the Carthage V.F.W. and Hamilton V.F.W. A memorial has been established.
