William Robert Edwards
Wm. R. Edwards Dies; Retired L&N Conductor William Robert Edwards, 83, of 2513 Casey, Mt. Vernon, died at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at his home. He was a retired L. and N. conductor. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday at the Pulley-Gutzler Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Grant Hawkins officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Catherine cemetery near Woodlawn. The body will lie in state at the Pulley-Gutzler Funeral Home, where friends may call between 7:00 and 9:00 p.m. today. Mr. Edwards was born, January 10, 1881, in Jefferson county, the son of John and Ella (Hutchison) Edwards. He was first married to Catherine Stratton, who preceded him in death. He later married Hattie Coats, who survives. Other survivors include two sons, Edward of Belleville and Leland of Pekin, Ill.; one daughter, Mrs. Walter Maxwell of Columbus, Ohio; two step-daughters, Marcena Riddle of Mt. Vernon and Mrs. Nola Foster of Cincinnati , Ohio ; four half-brothers, Robert Edwards of Poplar Grove, Ill., Sam Edwards of Elmhurst, Ill., Pearl Edwards and Roy Edwards both of Mt. Vernon; two half sisters, Mrs. Nina Bullock and Mrs. Alice Marland both of Mt. Vernon; and seven grandchildren. Mr. Edwards was a member of the Central Church of Christ. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen.
