William Burton England
William Burton ENGLAND, Sr., a lifetime resident of this city, died at 3 a.m. today (2-2-1953) at his home, 505 south 6th Street. His age was 61 years, 8 months and 29 days. The son of William Jerry and Sarah (Allen) England, he was born May 3, 1891 in Mt. Vernon. Mr. England was a veteran of World War 1, having served as a private with Company "D", 29th Battalion. He was married October 5, 1917, in Mt. Vernon to the former Mary Margaret Chamness, who survives. Mr. England was a grinder at Mt. Vernon Furnace and Manufacturing Company. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, from Myers Chapel, with the Rev. Bird Green in charge. Military services will be in charge by American Legion of which Mr. England was a member. He was also a member of the Eagles Lodge. In addition to his wife, Mr. England is also survived by seven sons, William Jr., Allen, Charles, Robert, Jerry and Donald all of Mt. Vernon, and Jess, who is serving in Germany with the US Army: two daughters, Mrs. Mary Ellen Phillips and Miss Glenda Louise England, of Mt. Vernon; two sisters, Mrs. Etta Gutherie of Mt. Vernon and Mrs. Katie Wright of Robertsville, MO. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren. The body will remain at Myers Chapel were friends may call after 11 a.m. Tuesday.
