Edward Laeton "Cotton" Fields
Edward Laeton "Cotton" Fields, 60, of Woodlawn died 3:35 a.m. Sept. 12, 2005, at VA Medical Center in Marion. He worked for General Radiator and later became a truck driver for Ryterski Trucking Co. in Du Bois. Mr. Fields was born Feb. 22, 1945, in Jefferson County to Frank James and Mildred (Mulvaney) Fields. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at East Salem Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. The Rev. Richard McCormick will officiate. Those wishing to attend are asked to go directly to the cemetery on Friday afternoon. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Mr. Fields is survived by his mother, Mildred Fields of Woodlawn; a special friend, Jewel Deas of Woodlawn; a son, Laeton E. Fields and Tamela of Kingsport, Tenn.; a daughter, Kelly Larkins of Centralia; four grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; a sister, Linda Kirk of Woodlawn; a brother, Brian Fields and wife Lynn of Ashley; and an uncle, Charles Mulvaney of Michigan City, Ind. He was preceded in death by his father; a brother, James Elmont Fields; four sisters, Zelah Robinson, Glenda Garrison, Murvell J. Jones and Linville Sue Reynolds; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Fields was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and was a Baptist by faith. For those who wish, memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
