Harvie David Fletcher
Harvie David Fletcher, 81, McLeansboro, passed away Monday afternoon, Dec. 31, 2007, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro. He was born in Mt. Vernon on Sept. 13, 1926, the son of Harvey and Mary (Jones) Fletcher. He married Barbara Ann Minor on Sept. 4, 1993, in Mt. Vernon, and she survives. He was a retired mail carrier. Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Osborn Funeral Home in Dix with the Rev. Elton Storey officiating. Burial will follow at Hopewell Cemetery with graveside military rites by the American Legion Post 141 of Mt. Vernon. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. A Masonic funeral rite will be held at 7:30 p.m. by the Mt. Vernon Lodge 31 A.F. & A.M. In addition to his wife, Harvie is survived by daughters, Joan Elaine Byrd and husband Larry of St. Peters, Mo., Linda Kratz and husband Mike of St. Louis, Mo. and Laura Allen and husband Eric of St. Louis, Mo.; step-children, Melvin Lee Shields of Winchester, Ohio and Krystal L. Alexander of McLeansboro; seven grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a brother, Gene Fletcher of Middleberg, Vt. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Mildred Esteledo Vantrees Fletcher; and one daughter, Deborah Kay Fletcher. Harvie was a 50 year member of Anheuser Busch American Legion Post 299 and a 50 year member of Clayton Masonic Lodge 60 A.F. & A.M. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific on the Battleship U.S.S. VillaGulf. He was of the Methodist faith.
