Henry C. Foreman

First Lieutenant Henry C. Foreman, Co. B, 53rd Ohio.

Henry C. Foreman was born Nov.5, 1842, in Marshall Co., Va. Departed this life, Feb. 21, 1921 at the home of his son W. E. Foreman, where he had lived since the death of his wife, April 7, 1920.

He was married to Mary E. Gilbert, Sept. 11, 1879 in Knob Prairie in a beautiful grove near the home of her father the late Cyrus Gilbert. One hundred guests partook of the wedding dinner. He was married by Rev. R. G. Harris pastor of the Universalist church at that time.

He leaves three children, Mrs. Cora Hartley, Mrs. D. M. Strickland and W. E. Foreman, all near Waltonville; six grand-children. Mrs. Craig Barnett, Mt. Vernon, Clive Hartley, Clay and Ruth Ora Strickland, Carson and Elwyn Foreman and two great grand children, Mary Evelyn Barnett and Ruth Marjorie Hartley.

Mr. Foreman was a church man, no one was more interested in everthing pertaining to the church and Sunday school that he. He has served as Sunday school superintendent and teacher of the young people's class at different times for many years. As long as these young men and young women whom he taught will continue to testify for Christ his influence will live. He united with the Universalist church when a young man and has always lived close to its teachings. By the passing from earth of Henry Foreman the Universalist church loses an unswervingly loyal member. He loved his faith and was a glad attendant onthe services for worship and zealous in spreading the good tidings to the whole world. His gracious personality lent charm and welcome to his church and friends. The generous part he took in ministering to the sick and unfortunate and his keen and ready sympathy to the afflicted endeared him to everyone.
