Irene (Black) Fryar
Funeral services for Irene J. Fryar, 91, 210 Opdyke Ave., will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Hughey Funeral Home with the Rev. Buss Hart officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, north of Mt. Vernon. Friends may call after 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mrs. Fryar died at 3:06 a.m. Tuesday in Good Samaritan Hospital. She was born in Jefferson County Dec. 16, 1891, the daughter of Benjamin P. and Florence B. (Boswell) Black. On Oct. 3, 1915, in Bonnie, she married Harvey I. Fryar, who died Aug. 29, 1966. Survivors include two sons, Melvin Fryar of Albany, Texas, and Ben Fryar of Mt. Vernon; five daughters, Delcie Nance, Agnes Fryar, Ruby Watts and Wilma Hungate, all of Mt. Vernon, and Sylvia Gray of Seward; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Fryar was a Methodist, and a member of the Mt. Vernon Eagles Lodge. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Teddy; one granddaughter, and three grandsons.
