Robert Thomas "Bobby" Gaines, 48, of Bluford died 12:31 a.m. Sept. 8, 2004, in Webber Township as a result of a motorcycle accident.

Mr. Gaines was born Feb. 21, 1956, in Paducah, Ky., a son of Alben Barkley Gaines and Billie J. Redfern.

Mr. Gaines is survived by his mother, Billie J. Gregory and husband Charles W. of Paducah, Ky..; a son, Brannon Lee Gaines of Marion, Ky.; a daughter, Alice Jane Gaines of Mt. Vernon; and Vicky Gaines, the mother of his daughter, Alice.

He is also survived by his maternal grandmother, Lela Mae Redfern of Paducah, Ky.; a sister, Cheri Crawford; and a brother, Alben Barkley "Tutor" Gaines Jr.

He was preceded in death by his father, Alben Barkley Gaines; a daughter, Stephanie Gaines; a brother, Vince Gaines; his maternal grandfather, Robert H. Redfern; and his paternal grandparents, Guy and Lula Gaines.

Mr. Gaines attended church at First Baptist Church in Bluford and he was a member of the Mt. Vernon Gun and Sportsman’s Club in Mt. Vernon. He was also an avid dart and pool player and was involved in leagues in both of those sports. He was employed by Purcell Tire in Mt. Vernon, where he worked as a mechanic.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11 at Newell Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. The Rev. John Blaylock will officiate. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. Interment will follow services at Black Oak Ridge Cemetery in rural Jefferson County.

Memorials may be made to the Robert Gains Memorial Fund and will be used for his daughter’s education. Newell Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon is in charge of arrangements. You may call 246-0100 for further information.
