Paul Gardner, 71, of Route 2, Richview Road., died yesterday at 10:05 pm at the Good Samaritan Hospital.

He was a retired employee of Illinois Power Co.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 pm at the Hughey-Pulley Funeral Home. The Rev. Billy Coatney will officiate. Burial will be in the Old Shiloh Cemetery.

Mr. Gardner was born in Jefferson County, Illinois on October 22,1899, the son of Walter and Maude (England) Gardner.

He was married in 1922 in Mt. Vernon to the former Dorothy Phillips, who survives.

Besides his wife he is survived by one son, Rev. Philip Gardner, East Alton; one daughter Mrs. Lloyd (Virginia) Shannon, Greenwood, Ind: six grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Hazel Grooms, Evansville, Wyo., and Mrs Iva Sullivan, Mt. Vernon.

Mr. Gardner was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
