Laura B. (Soper) Gibson
Laura B. Gibson, 93, of Nashville and formerly of Mt. Vernon, died 7:40 am July 28, 1995, at Washington County Hospital in Nashville. Mrs. Gibson had been a teacher at Lincoln School, and later was a clerk at The Mammoth department store. She was born Jan. 24, 1902, in Ashley, a daughter of Henry and Katie Belle (Newman) Soper. She married Albert C. Gibson on Aug. 30, 1927, in Centralia; he died Jan. 30, 1969. Funeral services will be 1 pm Sunday at Hughey Funeral Home with the Revs. Greg Alvis and Larry Bailey officiating. Burial will be at Hopewell Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 pm today at Hughey Funeral Home. Mr. Gibson is survived by a daughter, Sue McPherson and husband Carl of Nashville; a grandson, Eddie McPherson and wife Debbie of Marion; two granddaughters, Maribeth Shirley and husband Steve of Mt. Vernon and Debbie Conrad and husband Steve of Waterloo; seven great-grandchildren, Lindsey Mae and Christy Sue McPherson of Marion, Jenifer, John and Joshua Shirley of Mt. Vernon and Kyle and Laura Conrad of Waterloo; two sisters, Edith H. Marlin of Rochester and Carrie E. McCall of Vienna; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Gibson was a member of First Baptist Church and of Fidelia Sunday School Class there, and had taught Sunday School for many years. In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by a son, James Donald Gibson; five brothers; two sisters; and her parents. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church and will be accepted at Hughey Funeral Home.
