Genevieve (Fyke) Boster Gossage
Genevieve Boster Gossage, 84, of Mt. Vernon died 11:36 a.m. Sept. 13, 1999, at St. Mary’s/Good Samaritan in Mt. Vernon. Mrs. Gossage was a homemaker. She was born Jan. 29, 1915, in Jefferson County to Arley “Bill” and Mattie Mae (Tate) Fyke. She married William McKinley Boster on April 20, 1936, in Cape Girardeau, Mo. He died Sept. 11, 1979. She later married Mart E. Gossage on Feb. 16, 1980, in Mt. Vernon. He died Feb. 29, 1992. Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Bethel Memorial Cemetery in Mt. Vernon, with the Rev. Buss Hart officiating. Those attending the services are asked to go directly to the cemetery Wednesday morning. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Hughey Funeral Home. Survivors include Mrs. Gossage’s daughter, Dolores M. (Boster) Poston and husband Ross of Mt. Vernon; two granddaughters, Tammy Wheeler and husband Jeff of Mt. Vernon and Lori Scott and husband Chuck of Mt. Vernon; four great-grandchildren, Greg Wheeler and wife Maggie, Nick Wheeler, Dustin Scott and Megan Scott; one great-great-granddaughter, Samantha Ellen Wheeler; sister Veneta Fyke Rector and husband Wayne of Mt. Vernon; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Gossage was a dedicated and charter member of Casey Avenue Baptist Church. She was also a Sunday school and Bible school teacher for many years until her health began to fail. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Eva Fyke and Reva Fyke; and one brother, Donald Fyke. It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn’t go alone, for part of us went with you the day God called you home. Rest in peace, G.G.
