Former Resident Lawrence Gowler Dies At Age 78 Lawrence E. Gowler, 78, of Weldon, Ill., a former resident of Mt. Vernon, died Friday at Monticello Hospital near Farmer City, Ill. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the Denzil Funeral Home in Farmer City and burial will be in the Farmer City cemetery. The body will lie in state at the funeral home, where friends may call Sunday afternoon. Mr. Gowler was the son of the late P.A. and Cora (Davis) Gowler. He is survived by his wife, Chloe (Chilton) Gowler; four sons, Everett and Gene Glowler of Weldon, Ill., Orville S. Gowler of Decatur and Garland Gowler ofNew York; one daughter, Mrs. Opal Cole ofr Chicago; seven brothers, Nelson, Clarence, Walter and Fay Gowler of Mt. Vernon, Earl Gowler of Opdyke, Troy Gowler of Bluford and Rufus Gowler of Tuscola, Ill.; one sister, MRs. Dollie scott of Mt. Vernon; 15 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Mrs. Nellie Atkinson, and one brother, Eugene Gowler.
