Alva B. Grant

The Globe-Democrat of this morning tell of the death of Alva Grant in a motor accident in that city.

Mr. Grant is the son of Wm. Grant of Bluford, and he is survived by his father, and a sister, Mrs. Eva Moore, at Bluford. He was 30 years old.

The body will be brought to Mt. Vernon and burial will be had at Hopewell, the funeral depending on the time of the arrival of the body here.

The Globe-Democrat published the following story of the accident.

Alva Grant, 30, a truck driver for the W. F. Callahun Construction Company, was killed at 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon when the light truck he was driving along Grand Drive near the Jefferson Memorial in Forest Park collided with a loaded 5-ton truck of the Arrow Coal and Hauling Company, driven by Angelo Pretto, 19 of 6049 Arthur avenue.

Grant was thrown in the roadway and a rear wheel of Pretto's truck crushed his head. Police have no ascertained where Grant lived and whether he had relatives. The body was taken to the ------- --- - -----. According to Pretto, Grand had driven close to the curb of the drive to allow his heave machine to pass when the left front wheel struck a rut, throwing the truck directly in the path of Pretto's machine. The drive at the point has been partially torn up for repairs.

Pretto was held for the Coroner's inquest. The Callahun Construction Company, by which Grant was employed, is the firm heading the River des Peres sewer project. Grant was returning to the --- --- delivering a load of materials at the ------ company's activities in the park.
