Obituary for Ethel M. Green - (1887-1960) Ethel M. Green, Mt. V. Business Woman, is Dead Ethel M. Green, a prominent businesswoman and one of Mt. Vernon's best known citizens, died at Good Samaritan Hospital at 9:00 o'clock this morning after a long illness. Mrs. Green, who resided at 310 north 16th street, was executive secretary of the Mt. Vernon Loan and Building Association for 29 years. She began a long and successful career in business in 1921 when she was appointed assistant secretary to the Association. Her father, the late Morris Emmerson, was executive secretary. Upon his retirement in 1938 she was named executive secretary and held that position until her retirement in June 1957 of failing health. Mrs. Green was one of the founders and the first president of the Mt. Vernon Business and Professional Women's Club. She was born in Mt. Vernon, the daughter of the late Morris and Ida (Harris) Emmerson. She was a member of the First Presbyterian church. Survivors include one son, Morris Lee Green of Canoga Park, Ca.; one brother Navy Commander George H. Emmerson, retired of Washington, D.C., a grandson, Morris Lee Green, Jr., and a granddaughter, Barbara, both of Canoga Park, Ca. Her parents, a brother, Ray, and a sister, Anna, preceded her in death. Funeral arrangements were incomplete, pending arrival of her son from California. The body was taken to the Pulley Funeral Home.
