Opal L. (Martin) Greene
Opal L. Greene, 100, of Livingston, Tenn., and formerly of Mt. Vernon, died at 11:30 a.m. Friday, July 6, 2007, at Livingston Regional Hospital in Livingston, Tenn. She was born Jan. 12, 1907, in Bluford, a daughter of Mark and Florence “Flossie” (Williamson) Martin. She married Wayne Greene on Nov. 1, 1930, in Bluford; he preceded her in death on June 22, 1960. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at East Hickory Hill Cemetery in Bluford with the Rev. Merle Fullerton officiating. Interment will follow. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Mrs. Greene was retired from the State of Illinois TB Hospital in Mt. Vernon. She had a State of Illinois teacher certificate and attended Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. She was also a member of First Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Fla. She is survived by a daughter, Myrna L. Bayer of Alpine, Tenn.; a son, Robert Wayne Greene of Florida; two grandchildren, Melvin Wayne Bayer and Melinda Bayer Allen; three great-grandchildren, Kayla Beth Bayer Needham, Nathan K. Allen and Natalee Jean Allen; a great-great-granddaughter, Abigail Needham; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Jerry D. Greene; two brothers, Samuel P. Martin and Mark Martin Jr.; a sister, Ruby; a great-grandson, Kyle Wayne Bayer; and a son-in-law, Melvin Bayer.
