The funeral party in charge of the remains of the late C. D. Ham, who died at Eurka Springs, Ark., Monday afternoon, reached here on the L & N train at noon today.

Dr. A. C. Johnson, Mrs. Ham and daughter, Miss Martha, who accompanied the body home from the place of death were met at St. Louis by a deputation of citizens this morning and acted as a guard of honor to this city.

The funeral party was met at the railroad station by a large number of the friends of the deceased who followed the hearse to the family residence at 124 East Maple street, many of them lingering to express to the sorrowing wife and children the sympathy they felt in the bereavement which had befallen them.

The funeral will take place from the First M. E. church at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon under the ministration of Pastor John F. Harmon assisted by Rev. H. B. Douglas of the Presbyterian church. The interment will be at Oakwood cemetery where the services will be under the auspices of the Masonic order of which Mr. Ham was a member. An opportunity will be given the friends to view the remains of the deceased at the family residence this evening or any time previous to the funeral tomorrow. The band has courteously tendered its services and will pay homage to the memory of the dead by taking part in the funeral services.

(Picture) Christopher Devolcurt HAM was a native of this county and was born on a farm in Moore's Prairie, eight miles southeast of Mt. Vernon, September 10, 1838. He was the elder son of James and Frances T. HAM, the father, when a boy, moving with his parents from Virginia to this county in the early pioneer days. James HAM died in 1848. His wife, who afterward married Jeremiah TAYLOR, died in 1888. James HAM was counted a man of means in his day, when men of any considerable wealth were rarer than now, and the estate he left his family was the basis of the fortune which Jeremiah TAYLOR, who married the widow, amassed and afterward bequested to her two sons.

In 1865 Mr. Ham was married to Miss Anna GRANT, daughter of the late Judge August M. GRANT, another pioneer resident of this county. Mrs. HAM is related on her maternal side, to the best pioneer people in the county's history. Mrs. Martha GRANT, her mother, was a sister of Lieutenant-Governor Stinson H. ANDERSON, and an aunt of Gen. W. B. ANDERSON, late pension agent at Chicago. To Mr. and Mrs. HAM have been born four children, all of whom, with their mother, survive him: Martha, Sidney B., Bernadine Frances, and Grant Taylor.
