Billy D. Hamilton
Billy D. Hamilton, 73, of Mt. Vernon, died 7:31 p.m. Jan. 8, 2007, at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Regional Health Center. He was a retired coal miner. Born April 24, 1933, in Whittington, he was a son of Jesse and Essie (Burton) Hamilton. He married Ivalene (Gulley) Hamilton and she survives. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Johnston Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Raymond Capps officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Sesser. In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Michelle Lyons and husband Dale of Rincon, Ga.; three grandchildren: Chad Lowery and wife Sunny of Fort Drum, NY, Terra Gilles and husband Ryan of Rincon, Ga., and Avery Lyons of Rincon, Ga.; three great-grandchildren: Cody Lowery, Savannah Lowery and Eryn Nettles; two brothers, Gearld Hamilton of Benton and Larry Hamilton of Granite City; and a sister, Glenna Jean Burton and husband Jerry of Tunnel Hill. Mr. Hamilton was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and was a former member of the Northeast Water Co. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Brent Hamilton, and three brothers.
