Dr. Clarence Hamilton, a well known Mt. Vernon physician and surgeon, died at 4:20 Thursday afternoon at Good Samaritan Hospital. His death occurred 15 days after his 71st birthday. Although his death was expected it came as a shock to his friends. In failing health for some time

Dr. Hamilton submitted to surgery on November 26. The doctor seemed to get along fine after the operation and only a few days ago resumed his practice in his office at the John B. Rogers building. On Tuesday night he suffered a severe stroke at his home, 2507 Broadway, and was rushed to Good Samaritan Hospital where he remained in critical condition until his death.

A lifetime citizen of this community, Dr. Hamilton had served Mt. Vernon as a physician and surgeon for many years. As a young doctor he went overseas during World War I as a Captain in the Medical Corps and served with British forces.

Funeral Sunday. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Myers Chapel. The Rev. William E. Griffiths will officiate and burial will be in Oakwood cemetery. Military services will be in charge of the American Legion. The body will lie in state at Myers Chapel, where friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Saturday.

Dr. Hamilton was born December 18, 1891 in Jefferson county, the son of Dr. James W. and Cora Alice (Webb) Hamilton.

On March 31, 1924 he was married, at Clayton, Mo., to Hilda Carr, who survives.

Dr. Hamilton was a member of the Jefferson-Hamilton County Medical Association, the Elks and Moose lodges and the local American Legion.

Besides his wife, he is survived by one sister, Mrs. W. E. Setzekorn of Mt. Vernon.
