William "Bill" D. Hanagan
William "Bill" D. Hanagan, 78, of Mt. Vernon died 4:26 a.m. Aug. 16, 2006, at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital. He was a founding partner of Hanagan and Dousman Attorneys. Mr. Hanagan was born Dec. 8, 1927, in Benton to Michael J. and Esther (Zimmer) Hanagan. He first married Mary Jane (Welch) Hanagan; she preceded him in death Dec. 13, 1984. He later married Patricia Turnage Gardner Hanagan Dec. 27, 1986, in Mt. Vernon; she survives. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Church in Mt. Vernon. The Rev. Daniel Jurek will officiate. Burial will take place in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Mr. Hanagan is survived by his wife, Patricia Hanagan of Mt. Vernon; four sons, Christopher B. Hanagan of Key West, Fla., Michael J. Hanagan and wife Randi of Mt. Vernon, William D. Hanagan Jr. and wife Mary Ann of Newark, Del., and Steven F. Hanagan and wife Barbara (Cissy) of Mt. Vernon; two daughters, Patricia Hanagan of Portland, Ore., and Mary Kathleen Hanagan of Minneapolis, Minn.; a stepson, Martin Gardner and wife Joan of Kennewick, Wash.; a stepdaughter, Deborah Morgan and husband John of Marion; two grandchildren, Ryan Hanagan of Mt. Vernon and Kayla Hanagan of Mt. Vernon; seven stepgrandchildren, Daniel Ebetts, Jennifer Dionne, Holly Gardner, Jordon Hattery, Melissa Mather, Kara Gardner and Gabe Gardner; six stepgreat-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Klein and husband Howard of Saskatoon, Canada, and Kyran Hanagan of Benton; and several nieces. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Jane, and a sister, Dorothy Hanagan. Mr. Hanagan was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He was also a third degree member of Knights of Columbus, Monsignor James P. Burke Council 2964. He was also a fourth degree member of Knights of Columbus Assembly 1935. He was also a member of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, the Illinois State Bar Association, the Jefferson County Bar Association and the Celtic Bag Pipers of Southern Illinois. For those who wish, memorials may be given to the St. Mary's Church Building Fund or Barnes Hospital Siteman Cancer Center in St. Louis and will be accepted at the church or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O.
