DAYTON HARLAN DIES; FORMER COUNTY SHERIFF Former Sheriff Dayton Harlan, 60, of Route 4, died at 9:30 a.m. today at Good Samaritan Hospital, less than a year after completing his first and only term of county office. He was owner and operator of the Dayton Harlan Trucking Service on Route 4. A Democratic candidate for sheriff in 1970, Harlan defeated republican Roy Lavern Hall by 711 votes. 6,867 to 6,156. He chose not to run for re-election in 1974 and was succeeded in December by his deputy, Bill Hill. Harlan had served the 15 years prior to his election as sheriff as highway commissioner in Dodds Township. He had been a democratic precinct committeeman for many years. Funeral arrangements were incomplete at Myers Chapel.
