Emmett Harrell

Emmett Harrell, 73, of Mt. Vernon died at 7 a.m. May 17 at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

Harrell was born Jan. 29, 1932 in Evansville, Ind. to Reese Harrell and Mable Harrell Green.

He married Leota (Jones) Harrell.

Harrell was owner operator of Big E's Feed and Seed in Dix and then was manager for Bob Williamson Ag Hauling in Mt. Vernon for 13 years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1949 to 1952, during the Korean conflict.

Funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. Thursday at Hughey Funeral Home, the Reverend Garlin Burris will officiate. Burial will follow at Bethel Memorial Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. Visitation will take place today from 5 to 8 p.m. at Hughey Funeral Home.

Harrell is survived by two daughters, Toni Morgan of Mt. Vernon and fiancee Allen Wilkerson of Wayne City; Sandy Austill and husband John of Panama City, Fla.; a son, Jeff Harrell and wife Paula of Opdyke; a brother, Mel Green of Mt. Vernon; two sisters, Sharon Neabuhr and husband John of Mt. Vernon; Louise Newton of Evansville, Ind.; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother A.D. Green, and one sister Grace Ruston.

He was a member of the CB Club, past president of Land of Lincoln Barefoot Gabbers. His CB radio handle was "Thunderbolt".

For those who wish, memorials may be made to Belle Rive Baptist Church Building Fund and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon.
