Myra E. (Quarterman) Harris
Myra E. Harris, 91, of Dix, died Sunday, May 25, 2008, at Salem Township Hospital. She was born on Jan. 22, 1917, the daughter of George W. and Clara Jane (Boggs) Quarterman. On Dec. 5, 1953, in Mt. Vernon, she married James Lloyd Harris, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 13, 1996. Mrs. Harris attended school at Woods Grade School, Dix High School and Mt. Vernon Township High School, and Southern Illinois University. She was a homemaker and member of the First Apostolic Church in Centralia. Mrs. Harris is survived by a son, Dean Harris of Dix; a sister, Lola Belle Mullinax of Dix; a brother-in-law, Leroy Carpenter of Centralia; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, William and Earl Quarterman; and eight sisters, Lucy Craig, Alice Moore, Catherine Bell, Mabel, Grace, Almeda, Dorothy, and Anna Quarterman; and a sister-inlaw, Goldie Carpenter. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Osborn Funeral Home in Dix. Rev. Jonathan Urshan will officiate and burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
