Evelyn G. Hawkins, 77, of Mt. Vernon, died at 4:36 a.m. Nov. 7, 2006, at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

Evelyn was born Dec. 28, 1928, in Mt. Vernon, to Martin Wade and Carrie Elizabeth (Welch) Breedlove.

She married Richard C. Hawkins on Dec. 11, 1945. He survives in Mt. Vernon.

Evelyn is survived by her husband; son Michael Hawkins and wife Leslie of Mt. Vernon; daughters Judy Riggs of Concord, Calif., Shirley Muggleston of Concord, Calif., and Diane and husband Dennis Woltering of Aviston; grandchildren Jason Hawkins, Destin Hawkins, Richard W. Hawkins, Billie Jean Riggs, Tim Riggs, Travis Hill, Jeff Woltering, Shelly Albers, Matt Woltering; five great grandchildren; one brother and one sister.

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Darla Joyce Hawkins, granddaughter Misty Hawkins, two brothers, and one sister.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, at Newell Funeral home in Mt. Vernon, with Pastor Mark Shell officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
