Leona (Lowery) Hawkins
Leona Hawkins, 99, of Texico, died 12:05 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 26, 2004, at Saline Care Center. Services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004, at Panther Fork Baptist Church in Dix with the Rev. John Ashby officiating. Burial will be in Panther Fork Cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 27, 2004, at Osborn Funeral Home in Dix and 11 a.m. to service time Tuesday at the church. She was born Nov. 4, 1904, in Jefferson County to Silas D. and Eva (Cook) Lowery. On Dec. 23, 1922, she married Roy L. Hawkins in Kell, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 8, 1992. She was a homemaker and a member of Panther Fork Missionary Baptist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Ann Tate of Harrisburg; grandchildren, Mrs. and Mrs. Tom (Joyce) Arnold of Mount Vernon, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis (Debra) Tate of Leesburg, Ohio, Mr. and Mrs. Roy (Aline) Tate of Maeeo, La. and Mr. and Mrs. Terry (Pam) Hale of Harrisburg; great-grandchildren, Taemi, Bret, Chrissy, Dennis, Lance, Jennifer, Heather, Jodi, Amber and Davis; and seven great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Wanda Lowery of Wayne City;and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters; four brothers; an infant son, Donald; a grandson, Tommy Lee Pierce; a son-in-law, Wallace Pierce; a daughter, Wanda Pierce; and a son-in-law, Davis Tate. Memorial contributions may be made to Panther Fork Baptist Church, McKinley Baptist Church or VNA Hospice of Eldorado.
