Johnnie Bob Hayes, 58, of Mt. Vernon died 9 a.m. Sept. 28, 2005, at his residence. He was a farm manager for Hughey Farms in Mt. Vernon since 1991. Mr. Hayes was born Feb. 14, 1947, in Mt. Vernon to William Robert "Bill" Hayes and Martha Jeanette (Dooley) Hayes Reiser. Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Friday at Sugar Camp Cemetery south of Belle Rive, with military flag presentation by the chaplain of Mt. Vernon American Legion Post 141. Randy Sells will officiate. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt.Vernon. Mr. Hayes is survived by his stepmother, Edna Lou Hayes of Kell; a daughter, Christine "Sissy" Wilson and special friend James Blount of Mt. Vernon; a son, Billy Hayes and wife Louise of Salem; four grandchildren, Cody Wilson of Mt. Vernon, Jacob Hayes of Mt. Vernon, Jason Hayes of Salem and Janie Hayes of Salem; two stepbrothers, Jack Leffler and wife Carla of Bridgewater, N.J., and Charles Leffler and wife Heidi of Olney; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Also surviving is his extended family, the Hughey family: Edna R. Hughey; Susan R. Hughey; Chris, Carmen, Reid and Lane Deichman; Rick, Monica and Kylie Akes; and John, Marsha and Hayden Locke. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Michael Hayes; and four aunts, Yvonne Jones, Mary Lankford, Margie Payne and Virginia Lowery; and an uncle, Charles Lowery Sr. Mr. Hayes was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and was Christian by faith.
