William Hayes Of Kell Died At Age 76

William Robert "Bill" Hayes, 76, of Kell died 9:50 a.m. Jan. 25, 2003, at Mt. Vernon Care Center in Mt. Vernon.

He was a retired automobile mechanic.

Mr. Hayes was born Jan. 9, 1927, in Mt. Vernon to Johnny Cecil and Cecil Dana (Rightnowar) Hayes.

He married Edna Lou Dowen Leffler Hayes in Effingham; she survives.

No public funeral services will be held. Burial will be at Old Baptist Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.

In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons, Michael Hayes of Centralia, and Johnny Bob Hayes of Mt. Vernon; two step-sons, Charles Ray Leffler and wife Heidi of Olney, and Marvin Jack Leffler and wife Carla of Bridgewater, N.J.; two special children, Jessica Le of Kell, and Denice Stanfield of Florissant, Mo.; a sister, Virginia Lowery of Mt. Vernon; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Mr. Hayes was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister Yvonne Jones.

For those who wish memorial may be made to the Old Baptist Cemetery and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P. O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon.
