Sam Allen Henry, 55, of Belle Rive, passed away at 11:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, 2009, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

He was born in Jefferson County on Thursday, Jan. 7, 1954, a son of Ross and Maxine (Chambliss) Henry.

He married Judy A. Bergbower on Jan. 16, 1973, in Mt. Vernon, and she preceded him in death on Sept. 15, 2006.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.

Sam is survived by his mother, Maxine Henry of Bluford; son, Sammie A. Henry and wife Kelley of Belle Rive; daughter, Amy Drennan of Wayne City; five grandchildren, Tyler, Emma and Raegan Henry of Belle Rive and Ethan and Kendyl Drennan of Wayne City; three brothers, Gary Henry of Mt. Vernon, Larry Henry of Dix and Danny Henry of Bluford, four sisters, Doris Bass of Keenes, Iris Shell of Keenes, Sharon Shaw of Keenes and Alice Brookman of Bluford; and several nieces and nephews.

His wife; his father; one brother, Earl Henry; a nephew, Trevas Henry; an infant niece, Mary Bass; and an infant nephew, Buddy, preceded him in death.

Sam was a coal miner and a member of the United Mine Workers Association.
