Kyra (Pace) Hertenstein, 98, of Mt. Vernon, died 3:50 p.m. Dec. 25, 2004, at Nature Trail Health Care Center in Mt. Vernon.

She was born April 2, 1906, in Jefferson County to Joseph B. Yearwood and Charlotte (Muckleroy) Yearwood.

She first married Oral "Shorty" Pace on March 4, 1926, in Mt. Carmel; he died Sept. 25, 1972.

She then married Irvin G. Hertenstein on Feb. 10, 1984, in Mt. Vernon; he died Aug. 7, 1992.

Mrs. Hertenstein was a sales clerk at Mammoth Department Store and retired after many years with them.

Graveside services are set for 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Oakwood Cemetery. Those attending the service are asked to go directly to the cemetery on Wednesday afternoon. Rev. William Causer will officiate. Visitation is set for 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hughey Funeral Home.

Survivors include son Andy Pace and wife Norma of Mt. Vernon; granddaughters Nikki Hawkins and husband Rick of Mt. Vernon and Carol Sledge and husband Short of Mt. Vernon; great-grandchildren Matt Hawkins of St. Louis, Lacie Hawkins of Carbondale, Derek Sledge and wife Lisa of Mt. Vernon, and Katie Sledge of Lebanon; great-great-grandson Alec Tyler Sledge of Mt. Vernon; nephew Mark Yearwood of Wadesville, Ind.; and stepson Dean Hertenstein and wife Ginger of Coppel, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, brother Macer Yearwood and sister Evangeline Yearwood.
