James Patrick "Jamie" Hicks, 34, of Mt. Vernon, died 6:20 a.m. July 9, 2005, at his residence. He was a truck driver for Knight Transport.

Born March 25, 1971, in Mt. Vernon, he was a son of James H. Hicks Sr. and Patricia (Oliver) Hicks.

Graveside services were held 1 p.m. July 11 at Old Union Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. Ron Cremeens officiated. Burial was in Old Union Cemetery. In honor of his wishes, no public visitation was held.

Mr. Hicks is survived by his mother, Patricia Hicks of Mt.Vernon; his father, James H. Hicks Sr. of Dix; two sons, Ronnie Hicks of Lebanon, Mo., and Mikey Hicks of Mt. Vernon; a daughter, Heather Hicks of Mt. Vernon; his brother and best friend, James H. Hicks Jr. and wife Becki of Mt. Vernon; and four half brothers, Mike Ellis and wife Cindy, Mark Ellis and wife Kelly, Tim Ellis and wife Carla, and Sean Hicks and wife Angela, all of Mt. Vernon. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mr. Hicks loved motocross racing and handed down the love for the sport to his children.
