Margaret C. (Crews) Hicks
Mrs. Margaret C. Hicks, 72, of the Salem Road, for nearly 50 years the owner and operator of the L. & N Cafe in Mt. Vernon died at 8:50 p.m. Wednesday at Good Samaritan Hospital. Mrs Hicks was born on Feb. 25, 1903 in Cass county, the daughter of Richard H. and Stella (Stallings) Crews. She was married on June 3, 1934, to William F. Hicks, who died July 21, 1969. A lifelong member of the First United Methodist church, she also was a member of the Eastern Star, and was a past president of the Business and Professional Women's Club. She taught school for 13 years. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist church, with Dr. Clyde Funkhouser and the Rev. Carl Hearn officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery. Friends may call at Myers Chapel after 5 p.m. today. The body will be moved to the church at noon Saturday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Untied Methodist church. The casket will not be opened at the church. Mrs. Hicks is survived by two sons, David Hicks, Charlotte, N.C., and John R. Hicks, Mt. Vernon: two brothers, Leon Crews, Burbank, Calif;, and Wayne Crews, Okeechobee, Fla., three sisters, Mrs. Fay Lowry, Mexico, MO., Mrs. Bill (Mary Frances) Hayward, Castro Valley, Calif., and Mrs. Stella Lee Presley, Okeechobee, Fla. ; and three grandchildren, W. David Hicks Jr., Charlotte, N. C., Jeremy Robinson Hicks, Mt. Vernon, and Sarah Elizabeth Hicks, Mt. Vernon. She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers and two sisters.
