Julia Ann (Williams) Highsmith

Julia Ann Highsmith Succumbs At Home Of Daughter in Mt. V.

Julia Ann Highsmith died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Anna Callahan, 601 Harrison street, last night at 9 o'clock. Her age at the time of death was 86 years and 17 days.

She was born in Jefferson county near the Camp Ground community on March 18, 1860, the daughter of John C. and Prudence (Atchison) Williams.

She was married to Lewis C. Highsmith in 1877. Her husband died in 1912.

Funeral services will be held in Myers' chapel at 10 am Sunday. The Rev. Bird Green and the Rev. Cyrus Maulding will conduct the services and burial will bein the William cemetery. The body will lie in state at Myers' chapel where friends may call afater 9:30 am Saturday.

Mrs. Highsmith was a member of the Camp Ground Baptist church.

She is survived by one son, Albert C. Highsmith, of Mt. Vernon; three daughters, Mrs. Callahan and Mrs. Julia Pettit of Mt. Vernon and Mrs. Laura Reece of Bluford; one sister, Mrs. Nancy J. Scott; Mt. Vernon. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Besides her husband, four sons and a granddaughter preceded Mrs. Highsmith in death.

Julia is a sister of my gg grandfather, Samuel Barton Williams. Julia died April 4, 1946. I have photos of her parents, Jonathan Calvin Williams and Prudence Jane Atchison with their oldest child, Samuel Barton Williams (my gg grandfather) and Samuel's 4 children if anyone is interested in getting a copy. I also have a photo of siblings, Samuel, Mary, Julia, Keziah and Julia in their later years.
