William Roy Hobbs died at his home on Warren Ave. in this city about noon Sunday. Mr. Hobbs' death was very sudden and unexpected and was found due to a form of heart trouble. He arose as usual Sunday morning and later went to the railroad right of way to gather greens and when he returned home he was sick. Mrs. Hobbs wanted to call a physician, but he objected, thinking it unnecessary, but shortly after had her call one, but he died before the physician arrived.

Coroner Hardy Mannen was notified and investigated the case, but did not consider a formal inquest necessary. It was shown Mr. Hobbs had been subject to heart trouble and that he had been warned by physicians regarding his condition, having been afflicted sometime.

Mr. Hobbs had many friends, not only in Dix, where he formerly lived, but in Mt. Vernon, where he had made his home several years.

Mr. Hobbs is survived by his widow, Mrs. Bertha Hobbs, and three children, viz: Floyd Hobbs, Jefferson City, Mo.; Eva Hobbs and Wanda Hobbs at home; and Troy Hobbs, Centralia. One sister Mrs. Ida Kees lives in East Saint Louis.

Mr. Hobbs was born at Dix May 11, 1878, and his age at time of death was 57 years 11 months and 8 days.

He was a veteran of the Spanish war and served in Company K, 9th Illinois Volunteer Infantry. He was a member of Eben Swift Post No. 94, United Spanish War Veterans, and will be buried with military honors by the post.

Funeral services will be held in the Dix M.E. church Tuesday afternoon at 2 O'clock followed by burial at Jordan Chapel, east of Dix. The services will be conducted by the Rev. A.L. Smith and Rev. D.J. Mooney. Friends may view the body at the Osborn funeral home at any convenient time up to the funeral hour.
