Maxey J. Holloway, 91, of Waltonville died 2:30 a.m. Feb. 4, 2002, at Nature Trail Nursing Home. He was a retired coal miner.

Mr. Holloway was born March 13, 1910, in Jefferson County to Pearl and Ida (Kelley) Holloway.

He married Anita H. Gilbert Sept. 19, 1931 in Carmi; she is deceased.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Fry and Frick Funeral Home in Waltonville. Burial will be at Knob Prairie Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Fry and Frick Funeral Home.

Mr. Holloway is survived by two brothers, William R. Holloway, and Arthur Lee Holloway of Waltonville; one sister-in-law, Neva (Julius) Baker of San Antonio; one sister, Edna (Slick) Kennedy of Albuquerque N. M.; four nieces, Pam Lewis and husband John of Mt. Vernon; Fran Bauman and husband Jack of Springfield and Cindy Kennedy and Debbie Kennedy, both of Albuquerque N.M.

Mr. Holloway was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the VFW Post No. 915 and the American Legion Post 141 in Mt. Vernon. He was also a member of the Amvets Post No. 148 of Waltonville. He was a member of the Jefferson County Farm Bureau. and the United Mine Workers of American Local 9111, District 12. He was former president of Waltonville School Unit 1. He was a member of the Waltonville Village Board and president of the Knob Prairie Cemetery. He was one of the founders of the Waltonville Trust No. 95. He was also a member of the IOOF Marion Lodge No. 13 of Mt. Vernon.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Holloway was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Floyd and Greer Holloway; two sisters, Marie Gee and Roth Barnett; one niece, Carol Bicanich; and one nephew, Floyd Kennedy.

Memorials may be made to the Knob Prairie Cemetery and will be accepted at the Fry and Frick Funeral Home. Fry and Frick Funeral Home is assisting the family with funeral arrangements and you may call at 279-7272 for information.
