Etta Mae (Harmon) Holman
Etta Mae Holman, 84, died at 1:35 a.m. on Wednesday, May 21, 2003, in her home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 24, at the Johnston Funeral Home in Whittington, with the Revs. Joe Arview and Melton Nelms officiating. Burial will be in the Williams Chapel Cemetery in Ewing. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p. m. Friday at the funeral home. She was born in Spring Garden, Jefferson County, on Jan. 8, 1919, the daughter of John Aaron and Fleeta Jane (Manis) Harmon. Etta had no current church affiliation, but referred to herself as a child of God. She worked 12 years as an obstetrics nurse at the Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Mt. Vernon, and was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, sewing and quilting. She married Herbert Ray Holman on June 12, 1934, and he died on Nov. 10, 1978. She is survived by all of her children: three daughters, Barbara Jean Stilley of Benton, Daisy Mae Moore and husband Arnold Paul Moore of Steel City, Carolyn Eileen Holman of Ewing; sons, Melvin Ray Holman and wife Beatrice of Green Cove Springs, FL, Larry Edwin Holman and wife Thelma of Miamisburg, OH, Rodney Alvin Holman and wife Angela of Flora; 16 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; long time family friend, Judy Boudreau of Bradley; three sisters-in-law, Mary Bevis of Herrin, Virg Harmon of Kankakee, Minnie Hess of Mt. Vernon. Mrs. Holman was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Claude Harmon, three half-sisters, Lottie Darr, Mary McGlone and Maggie Wiggins and by a half-brother, Byford Bevis.
